Formatting Comments in an Activated Checklist Instance

Formatting comments in an Activated Checklist Instance can be done in two ways. By highlighting the text you wish to format and by using keyboard shortcuts.

Highlighting Text

  • To add formatting to a comment using the highlight text method, enter your comment

  • Then highlight the part of the text that you want to format e.g. in the below screenshot we want to make bold the persons name and their organization

  • Note that as soon as you highlight, it shows you your formatting options

  • Select the formatting option you're after, which will apply the formatting

  • Click away from the comments field to close the formatting options

  • Once you've applied all formatting to your comment you can confirm it

Note: as with all comments in Activated Checklist Instance, only the author can edit or delete the comment.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Formatting can also be applied by using keyboard shortcuts. Note that a link cannot be created using a keyboard shortcut, only by highlighting the text you want to link.

Bold Text

The keyboard shortcuts for bold text are either:

  • CTRL+b

  • Two asterisks before and after the text you want bold **this will be come bold**

  • Two underscores before and after the text you want bold __this will become bold__

Italicized Text

The keyboard shortcuts for italics are either:

  • CTRL+i

  • One asterisk before and after the text you want in italics *this will be come italics*

  • One underscore before and after the text you want in italics _this will become italics_

Underlined Text

The keyboard shortcuts for underlined text are either:

  • CTRL+u

Bullet Points

  • Start the line with either an asterisk (*) or a dash (-) then hit your space bar

Numbered List

  • Start the line with either 1. or 1) then hit your space bar

Headings

You can add headings into comments, but only using keyboard shortcuts. This is as simple as entering a hash (#) or multiple hashes and hitting your space bar.

  • # + space = Heading 1

  • ## + space = Heading 2

  • ### + space = Heading 3

  • #### + space = Heading 5

Enter Key vs Send Button

There are two ways to set up how you Send a comment after you've written it:

  • Press enter key to send

  • Click send button

The option you have selected will impact how using bullet points and numbered lists work.

You can swap between these options by clicking the three vertical dots on the comment field, and making your choice.

Your selection will be remembered until you change it again.

Press enter key to send

When you have this option selected, hitting Enter will send the comment. If you want to use bullet points or numbered lists, and this is your selected option, to add a new bullet / number, you'll need to use either Shift+Enter, ALT+Enter, or CTRL+Enter

Click send button

When this is your selected option you can use your Enter key to continue your bullets / numbering.

Comment Character Count

Comments in Activated Checklists are limited to 2000 characters (including space and punctuation).

To help you see where you're at, a counter will show how many characters you've used.

As you get closer to 2000, the color will change to orange to warn you. This happens at 1601.

Once you reach 2000, your screen and the counter will go red, there will be a negative number to indicate how many characters over you are, and you're unable to confirm the comment.
